Embedding Fonts in your artwork

Embedding Fonts in your artwork

It is important when sending a final design for printing or another person, that the document has the fonts embedded.. If the document is opened on another computer, the fonts you have used on your computer may not be available. The text will appear differently, in a different font or size and the layout may change. This is likely to happen if your design uses fonts that aren’t commonly available and the artwork has not been embedded.

The solution to this is to either use common fonts like Arial, Times New Roman and Verdana or embed your fonts into the document. This way, text is turned into a graphic or image, which means your artwork will print correctly.

Option 1: Save the file into a raster format (jpeg, png, tiff etc.) so the fonts become part of the image. Almost all of the photos found on the web and in print catalogues are raster images. However saving as these type of files means it is hard to edit at a later date. However, the document will be displayed correctly.

Option 2: If saving as a PDF you must make sure you ‘create outlines’ on the fonts for the correct result.
